Letter carries throughout northwest Pennsylvania will be taking part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania on May 9.<\/p>\n

This annual food drive benefits not only the food bank but its network of 390 partner food pantries and other meal programs.<\/p>\n

This single-day drive is hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers and is the largest in the country. Last year the collective efforts resulted in over 74,000 pounds of food collected, supporting several neighbors in northwest Pennsylvania facing food insecurity.<\/p>\n

Those interested in participating can place a sturdy bag filled with nonperishable food items next to their mailbox early on May 9. These items must be in unbreakable containers and those who would prefer a virtual donation can make those online here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Postal carriers and volunteers will take their usual routes to gather donations before delivering them directly to the food bank and partner agencies. These donations will be distributed throughout the region.<\/p>\n
