{"id":186781,"date":"2026-05-08T02:05:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T02:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/186781\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T02:05:42","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T02:05:42","slug":"lehigh-valley-political-pulse-is-democratic-field-in-pa-7-beginning-to-separate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/186781\/","title":{"rendered":"Lehigh Valley Political Pulse: Is Democratic field in PA-7 beginning to separate?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BETHLEHEM, Pa. \u2014 With less than two weeks until Pennsylvania\u2019s primary election, political scientist Chris Borick said the Democratic race for the 7th Congressional District is beginning to show signs of movement, but not resolution.<\/p>\n<p>Former federal prosecutor Ryan Crosswell, firefighter union boss Bob Brooks, former Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure and energy engineer Carol Obando-Derstine are seeking the party&#8217;s nomination.<\/p>\n<p>The primary winner is expected to challenge Republican incumbent Ryan Mackenzie, who has no primary challenger, this November.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cThere seems to be a little distance between certain candidates and others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chris Borick on the PA-7 Democratic candidates<\/p>\n<p>Borick said the field is starting to sort itself based on money and endorsements, even if no candidate has clearly broken away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere seems to be a little distance between certain candidates and others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed in particular to the role of fundraising and advertising in helping candidates build recognition in a crowded, open-seat race.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted Brooks as a candidate benefiting from both institutional and financial advantages, including support from Gov. Josh Shapiro and national Democratic figures.<\/p>\n<p>That backing, Borick said, is part of a broader effort to build a winning coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks&#8217; latest endorsement<\/p>\n<p>This week, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighvalleynews.com\/elections\/2-weeks-ahead-of-the-democratic-primary-dccc-throws-its-support-to-bob-brooks-in-crowded-pa-7-field\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also endorsed Brooks<\/a>, a move Borick described as a strategic attempt to influence the race before the primary rather than after it is decided.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that you have to think about the strategic decision there,\u201d Borick said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would you do it now?
