DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) \u2014 The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defense announced that the country\u2019s air defenses are \u201cactively engaging\u201d with a missile and drone attack early Friday as the Iran war’s shaky ceasefire was again challenged.<\/p>\n
The ministry advised residents not to approach, photograph or touch \u201cany debris or fragments that have fallen as a result of successful air interceptions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hours earlier, the U.S. military said it had intercepted Iranian attacks on three Navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz Thursday night and \u201ctargeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking U.S. forces.\u201d<\/p>\n
U.S. Central Command said in a social media post that U.S. forces intercepted \u201cunprovoked Iranian attacks\u201d and responded with self-defense strikes.<\/p>\n
The U.S. military said no ships were hit. It said it doesn\u2019t seek escalation but \u201cremains positioned and ready to protect American forces.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Donald Trump told reporters in Washington that the ceasefire was holding despite the violence.<\/p>\n
The tenuous ceasefire<\/a> between the U.S. and Iran has largely held since April 8. In-person talks<\/a> between the two countries, hosted by Pakistan last month, failed to reach an agreement to end the war that began Feb. 28 when the U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran.<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 The Associated Press.
