PHILADELPHIA, PA \u2014 Independence Historical Trust will launch a slate of free public programs this summer at Independence National Historical Park, including evening walking tours, outdoor yoga sessions, movie screenings, and pet-friendly events aimed at increasing community engagement in Philadelphia\u2019s historic district.<\/p>\n
The 2026 programming lineup begins in May and runs through October at locations across the park, including Independence Mall, the Liberty Bell Center area, and the grounds surrounding historic buildings near Independence Hall.<\/p>\n
The nonprofit organization, which serves as the philanthropic partner to Independence National Historical Park, said the programs are intended to provide residents and visitors with new ways to experience the nation\u2019s historic sites ahead of the country\u2019s upcoming semiquincentennial commemorations.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to make the park feel welcoming, active, and relevant to everyone who spends time here,\u201d Executive Director Tom Caramanico said. \u201cWhether you\u2019re joining a tour, watching a movie on the Mall, or simply enjoying the space with family or friends, these programs are about creating meaningful connections to this place and its history.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Trust\u2019s Twilight Tours will run daily beginning Friday, May 22, through September 7. Standard tours begin at 5:15 p.m., with additional 6 p.m. tours offered Thursdays through Sundays. Tours will depart from the Liberty Bell Center viewing window near Sixth and Chestnut streets. Guides will lead visitors through historic landmarks and lesser-known areas of the park using rotating themes and routes.<\/p>\n
Yoga at Independence will take place on select Saturdays \u2014 May 16, June 20, July 18, August 15, and September 19 \u2014 at 9 a.m. on the lawn behind the Second Bank of the United States at 420 Chestnut St. Sessions will be led by instructors from Monarch Yoga and are open to all skill levels. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats or towels.<\/p>\n
The Trust will also host B.A.R.K. Ranger programs on May 30 and October 24 at 8 a.m. in the Pemberton House Garden at 316 Chestnut St. During the events, dogs can take an official oath and become certified stewards of Independence National Historical Park. The programs will also include refreshments and community activities for pet owners.<\/p>\n
Movies on the Mall will return on August 21, September 18, and October 16 at Independence Mall between Fifth and Sixth streets. Pre-show activities begin at 5:30 p.m., with films starting at dusk. The screenings, presented in partnership with Independence National Historical Park and the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation, will include ranger-led programming, arts and crafts, and colonial-era games before the films begin.<\/p>\n
