Today we wanted to share one of our most popular step-by-step Maker Monday projects, which comes courtesy of our creative friends at the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re glad to be kicking off another week by bringing you a free maker activity that your kids can do with items you likely have around the house. This week\u2019s project will teach your kids to make a jumping frog from paper. As they follow the video below, kid makers will also learn a bit about the frogs your family can find in Pittsburgh\u2019s parks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A note to kid makers: Please work with a parent or caregiver on every project, including this one. And though this project doesn\u2019t involve tools, always be very careful when using tools of any kind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Maker Monday materials you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n<p>A square sheet of paper (thin origami paper works best \u2013 you can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Origami-Paper-Double-Sided-Color\/dp\/B06XW45PMR\/ref=asc_df_B06XW45PMR\/?tag=hyprod-20&amp;linkCode=df0&amp;hvadid=198099762925&amp;hvpos=&amp;hvnetw=g&amp;hvrand=4706796521848168419&amp;hvpone=&amp;hvptwo=&amp;hvqmt=&amp;hvdev=c&amp;hvdvcmdl=&amp;hvlocint=&amp;hvlocphy=9005885&amp;hvtargid=pla-349129359729&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">find it online<\/a>\u00a0for just a few dollars)<br \/>\nTwo small beads<br \/>\nGlue\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Instructions:<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re sharing written steps here, but origami is much easier to do when you see the steps. The video (included below) will\u00a0show you all the steps to create your jumping frog.<\/p>\n<p>So watch the video once or twice. Then go back to the beginning and follow along with it as you go through the steps below to fold your paper. You can rewatch any parts you\u2019d like to see again.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve watched the video, take your sheet of paper (if it\u2019s colored origami paper, place the colored side down) and fold it in half.<br \/>\nThen take the top corners of the open side and fold them in, aligning the top edge with the first fold, creasing the paper. Then let that side open and fold the opposite side in, creasing the paper again (see video). When you let the paper open, you should see creases that form an \u201cx.\u201d<br \/>\nNext, do the same steps with the two bottom corners of your paper, creating another set of creases that form an \u201cx.\u201d<br \/>\nThe next few folding steps are clearly shown in the video. Follow along as you fold, and feel free to rewind and pause or re-watch any steps you\u2019d like to see more than once.<br \/>\nWhen you\u2019ve finished all the folding steps and the body of your frog is done, it\u2019s time to give your frog eyes. Add two dots of glue where the frog\u2019s eyes belong and attach the beads.
