HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) \u2014 Pennsylvania Capitol Police announced its first DUI checkpoint resulted in 13 arrests on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Police say on Saturday, May 9, authorities directed 38 people to the multi-agency DUI checkpoint in the 700 block of 7th Street, resulting in 13 DUI arrests.<\/p>\n
Police say the checkpoint arrested 4 others for drug-related violations, 2 others for operating a vehicle without the required ignition interlock system, and impounded one vehicle for a narcotics-related search warrant.<\/p>\n
\u201cImpaired driving continues to put lives at risk on our roadways, and this coordinated effort reflects our commitment to proactive enforcement and public safety in the Capitol Region,\u201d said Capitol Police Chief Joe Jacob. \u201cBy working with our law enforcement partners, we are sending a clear message that driving under the influence will not be tolerated, and we will continue to take steps to keep our communities safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
The checkpoint screened northbound and southbound traffic to proactively identify and remove impaired drivers. Child passenger safety checks were also given to motorists passing through, with new seats given to travelers with damaged ones.<\/p>\n
