{"id":191715,"date":"2026-05-13T23:58:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T23:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/191715\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T23:58:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T23:58:07","slug":"erie-county-sheriffs-office-warns-of-officer-impersonation-scam-on-the-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/191715\/","title":{"rendered":"Erie County Sheriff\u2019s Office warns of officer impersonation scam on the rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">ERIE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) &#8211; The Erie County Sheriff\u2019s Office alerted the public Wednesday of a scam involving officer impersonation calls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the sheriff\u2019s office, residents are receiving calls from scammers claiming to be \u201cOfficer Ryan Mullins\u201d from the their office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The fake officer goes on to demand individuals to post bond for a warrant issued over missing federal grand jury subpoena.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The caller informs residents the only way to pay their warrant is by depositing cash in a Bitcoin website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The sheriff\u2019s office clarifies to residents that they don\u2019t demand cash payments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">They advises residents to never provide payment to anyone who claims they are a law enforcement officer and to instead hang up the call and notify police.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WOIO.
