{"id":1919,"date":"2025-10-15T15:51:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/1919\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T15:51:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:51:05","slug":"short-term-house-rentals-face-new-regulations-in-reading-reading-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/1919\/","title":{"rendered":"Short-term house rentals face new regulations in Reading | Reading Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>READING, Pa. \u2013\u00a0Reading City Council voted Monday night to adopt a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingpa.gov\/images\/City_Council_regular_agenda\/10-13-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">zoning amendment<\/a> that will regulate the operation of short-term rentals, including Airbnb and VRBO rentals.<\/p>\n<p>Discussed over the previous month, the administration had repeatedly stressed that the ordinance was proposed to promote positive competition in the city and to protect residents and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The zoning amendment now states that short-term rentals will be permitted &#8220;by right&#8221; in the following zoning districts: C-C Commercial Core, CR Commercial-Residential, CN Commercial Neighborhood and C-H Commercial Highway.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the rentals will be permitted in the R-3 Residential district by a special exception.<\/p>\n<p>Properties in other zoning districts, including Low-Density Residential (R-1 and R-2) will now have to seek a zoning variance to have a short-term rental approved.<\/p>\n<p>All property owners who plan to operate a short-term rental will be required to obtain a zoning permit and an operating license.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A short-term rental is defined as overnight stays up to a maximum of 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>Councilmember Chris Miller said using Airbnb rentals is now a common practice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to acknowledge it, and we need to realize that this is the way things are evolving,&#8221; Miller said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"READING, Pa. \u2013\u00a0Reading City Council voted Monday night to adopt a zoning amendment that will regulate the operation&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":1920,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[1088,1092,1089,1091,1090,1093,1094,128,1095,130,129,1096,1097,1087],"class_list":["post-1919","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-reading","tag-airbnb","tag-charter-board","tag-chris-miller","tag-jaime-baez","tag-john-addeo","tag-michael-gombar","tag-rafael-nunez","tag-reading-city","tag-reading-city-council","tag-reading-city-headlines","tag-reading-city-news","tag-short-term-rentals","tag-vrbo","tag-zoning"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1919","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1919"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1919\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1920"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1919"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1919"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1919"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
