{"id":19193,"date":"2025-10-29T23:47:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T23:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/19193\/"},"modified":"2025-10-29T23:47:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T23:47:09","slug":"harry-donahue-philadelphia-sports-radio-legend-dead-at-77","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/19193\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Donahue, Philadelphia sports radio legend, dead at 77"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Philadelphia sports radio staple died at 77 following a battle with cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Harry Donahue, a longtime sports and morning drive anchor at KYW Newsradio, died Wednesday, the station\u2019s parent company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/news\/local\/longtime-kyw-newsradio-anchor-harry-donahue-dies-at-77\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Audacy, announced<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Donahue had a 35-year career at the station, which began in 1974 as a freelance reporter before he started work as an anchor in 1979.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.77777778;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37525468\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/harry-donohue-2.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Donahue in the KYW Newsradio studio. \" class=\"wp-image-37525468\"  \/>Harry Donahue in the KYW Newsradio studio.  KYW Newsradio.<\/p>\n<p>Across the course of his career, Donahue served as the play-by-play voice for the USFL\u2019s Philadelphia Stars in the 1980s, and he was the TV and radio voice for Temple University football and basketball.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He started working with Temple in 1984, broadcasting select football games on the radio. He started calling basketball games on TV in 1987.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Donahue went back to calling Temple football in 1993 and again called men\u2019s basketball in 2002.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re deeply saddened by the passing of longtime Voice of the Owls, Harry Donahue,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TempleOwls\/status\/1983654833916969360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Temple said in a post on social media<\/a>. \u201cA Philadelphia broadcasting legend, his Temple career spanned five decades, bringing the passion and pride of Temple Athletics to fans across the city and beyond. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur love and thoughts go out to the Donahue family and the Owl community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37525469\" width=\"590\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/harry-donohue-1.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Donahue\" class=\"wp-image-37525469\"  \/>Harry Donahue died at the age of 77. Harry Donohue\/X<\/p>\n<p>Among his other highlights were hosting \u201cInside Golf\u201d on Comcast SportsNet.
