ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) \u2013\u00a0Three candidates are on the Democratic primary ballot for Pennsylvania\u2019s 91st House District. The Republican primary ballot<\/a> for that seat also has three candidates.<\/p>\n

What issues are you running on? <\/p>\n

\u201cI work in agriculture, so it\u2019s very personal to me,\u201d said Tony Nunez-Guzman. \u201cI\u2019ve interacted with many people who have all their documentation and stuff, and they\u2019re just, either through fear, leaving, or being picked up and then you don\u2019t see them again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy top priorities are, number one, getting corruption out of politics,\u201d said Darian Sundberg. \u201cI think there\u2019s a lot we can do in the state to remove funding from corporations and big banks and moneyed interests to our politicians. We can make a gift ban.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSomething that\u2019s really important to me are strong public schools and also sensible taxation,
Kathleen Pratt said. \u201cWhat I\u2019d like to work on in my first year as state representative is identifying a special revenue stream that can infuse much needed dollars into public education right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

How would your professional background help in Harrisburg? <\/p>\n

\u201cWith my current job, I go and I see what is not working, I identify the problem and then I write recommendations for how to fix that problem, and I work with a bunch of people doing this because I\u2019m working with a department head, I\u2019m working with the plant manager, I\u2019m working with employees, so I have a very collaborative style,\u201d said Nunez-Guzman.<\/p>\n

\u201cGas prices don\u2019t know if you\u2019re a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or another party,\u201d Pratt said. \u201cI may know what party you are, but I don\u2019t care. I know the challenges that we face and part of those challenges is really the increased prices that we pay every day. Every time we turn around, prices are just escalating, and that\u2019s really hard for people. I have the skill set based on my career experience, to really work on those challenges and try to make life better and frankly more affordable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m also a renter,\u201d Sundberg said. \u201cI experience the housing crisis myself.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to implement maybe a vacancy tax to make sure that if there\u2019s homes or rentals on the market, that are available,\u201d Sundberg said. \u201cIf they\u2019re not available, then the landlord should be paying to towards tax credits to people who are paying higher rents because of those vacancies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pratt is a business professor. She previously taught at HACC for almost 20 years. She currently sits on the Gettysburg Area School Board. Sundberg is an art teacher for at-risk youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve also taught in Japan for a couple of years,\u201d Sundberg said. \u201cMy work over there, I earned sort of a unofficial ambassadorship, a goodwill ambassadorship for the the prefecture of Toyama for my multicultural work, and bridging United States communities with Japan communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

What is your stance on data centers? <\/p>\n

\u201cFrom all the research that I\u2019ve done on these, on this issue, whether it is the increase in utility, electricity and water, and the lack of evidence that people actually want AI in their phones and on their email and all of these other things,\u201d said Nunez-Guzman. \u201cMake sure that people are protected from corporations trying to use it to replace people, and I just want to make sure that we\u2019re using our resources like water for people, not computers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cData centers are a drain on natural resources and a financial burden on residents who suffer increased electricity costs,\u201d Pratt said. \u201cRegulatory oversight is needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe a moratorium is important to ensure we have enough time to research the damages that could that these businesses can have on our society,\u201d Sundberg said.<\/p>\n

Sundberg also says he is pro-green energy and believes solar farms should be installed on land that has already been developed, like in parking lots.<\/p>\n

All three candidates support implementing term limits. Incumbent Republican Rep. Dan Moul has held the 91st House District seat for 20 years.<\/p>\n
