Meals on Wheels Erie is marking 55 years of delivering meals to homebound residents across Erie County.<\/p>\n
The organization began in 1971 as a small parish effort in Lawrence Park and has since expanded to serve communities from Northeast to Girard and as far south as Waterford and Edinboro.<\/p>\n
Executive Director Jennifer Hoffman said the group\u2019s mission has always been about more than food.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been able not just to bring a meal, because it\u2019s so much more than just a meal \u2014 it\u2019s connection,\u201d Hoffman said. \u201cFor 55 years, we\u2019ve been able to be a part of people\u2019s lives across Erie County, and that\u2019s been a privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n

To celebrate the milestone, Meals on Wheels Erie will host a fundraiser, At Her Table, on May 15 at the Erie Art Museum. The event will include live entertainment, small plates from Calley\u2019s West and a cocktail reception.<\/p>\n
Hoffman said the celebration also recognizes the volunteers, board members and supporters who have sustained the organization for more than five decades.<\/p>\n
