HARRISBURG, Pa. – A bill requiring automated external defibrillators to be present at all Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association-sanctioned athletic events and practices was signed into law Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Sen. Rosemary M. Brown (R-40)<\/a> , in a news release, said Senate Bill 375<\/a>, known as Greg Moyer\u2019s Law, is now in effect.<\/p>\n Brown said the law also requires schools to develop and rehearse emergency action plans for cardiac incidents.<\/p>\n Brown said efforts to pass the legislation began more than 10 years ago, after Greg Moyer died due to sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game.<\/p>\n The law also requires schools to develop and rehearse emergency action plans for cardiac incidents.<\/p>\n \u201cThe enactment of this legislation represents more than a decade of advocacy, collaboration, and determination to better protect student athletes across Pennsylvania,\u201d said Brown.<\/p>\n \u201cSudden cardiac arrest remains the leading cause of death among young athletes, and we know that immediate access to an AED can save lives. This law ensures schools are better prepared to respond in an emergency and helps make these critical protections standard in every community.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis law honors my son Greg and ensures that his legacy will continue to save lives,\u201d said Rachel Moyer, Greg\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are grateful to everyone who recognized the importance of protecting our children and ensuring schools are prepared to respond when every second matters.
