Three people were injured in a crash that damaged a utility pole and closed a road Thursday afternoon in Bethlehem.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 12:30 p.m. in the area of New Street and Elizabeth Avenue, according to a city police news release. The lone occupant of one of the vehicles was trapped inside the vehicle, which caught fire, the release states. The other vehicle had two occupants.

A utility pole was severed, causing live wires to fall on the road, police said. First responders removed them from the vehicles, and the three were taken to nearby hospital for treatment. Police did not have an update on their conditions Thursday.

Photos of the crash posted on social media showed the vehicles — an SUV and a sedan — with heavy damage.

Investigators believe that one of the vehicles may have entered Route 378 northbound from the wrong direction using the Main Street ramp shortly before the crash.

The area of New Street and Elizabeth Avenue will remain closed while police continue their investigation. Drivers should use an alternate route.

Three people were injured in a crash that damaged a utility pole and closed a road Thursday afternoon…

[14
153,155,154,1391,2376,202,182,139,434,28,432
post-192533","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bethlehem","tag-bethlehem","tag-bethlehem-headlines","tag-bethlehem-news","tag-bethlehem-area","tag-breaking-news","tag-crime-and-public-safety","tag-local-news","tag-news","tag-northampton-county","tag-pennsylvania","tag-top-stories-tmc
["GET
