Prime Stage Theatre in Pittsburgh has announced that three plays that speak to the American experience past, present and future, will make up its 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n
First up is \u201cFahrenheit 451,\u201d which will be presented Nov. 6-11. It is based on Ray Bradbury\u2019s classic dystopian novel about a bookless world.<\/p>\n
Then, on Feb. 19-28, 2027, \u201cWade in the Water,\u201d by Pittsburgh playwright Lynne Conner, will be staged. Set in 1851 Pittsburgh, \u201cWade in the Water\u201d dramatizes the journey of a Black family on their way to Canada to escape Southern slavery. <\/p>\n
The season wraps up with \u201cYou Can\u2019t Take It with You\u201d<\/p>\n
on April 30 to May 9, 2027. Premiering on Broadway in 1936, \u201cYou Can\u2019t Take It with You\u201d by Moss Hart and Pittsburgh-born George S. Kaufman raised theater comedy to new heights. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about a slightly mad family,\u201d Kaufman wrote. \u201cBut it has a point, that the way to live and be happy is just to go ahead and live, and not pay attention to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prime Stage Theatre has produced 111 plays and 20 world premieres since its 1996 founding with the mission of \u201cbringing literature to life\u201d. The company has won national recognition as a leader in educational theater and received two National Endowment for the Arts grants for recent productions \u201cPerseverance\u201d and \u201cSpeak.\u201d<\/p>\n
All plays are presented at New Hazlett Theater on Pittsburgh\u2019s North Side. <\/p>\n
