UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) — A middle school-aged student has died after being shot inside a home on Thursday afternoon in Upper Darby Township, according to police.<\/p>\n
The apparent accidental shooting happened in the 100 block of Springton Road.<\/p>\n
Action News has learned that four juveniles – two boys and two girls – were inside the home, playing with a gun when it discharged.<\/p>\n
A 14-year-old girl was struck in the head and later died from her injuries.<\/p>\n
Investigators are still working to determine who fired the gun and how the weapon was obtained.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the Upper Darby School District urged families to have conversations about gun safety.<\/p>\n
“We urge you to discuss with your children the seriousness of playing with guns and the potential consequences,” the district said.<\/p>\n
Counselors will be available on Friday at Beverly Hills Middle School to support students and staff.<\/p>\n
Police say the teen who died lived in the home.<\/p>\n
No charges have been announced.<\/p>\n
