A serious two-vehicle crash left three people hospitalized after a driver was reportedly seen entering Route 378 the wrong way before slamming into another vehicle in Bethlehem, police said.<\/p>\n
The crash happened near New Street and Elizabeth Avenue around 12:25 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, Bethlehem police detailed in a release. <\/p>\n
Officers arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles, according to police. One of the vehicles, believed to be the offending vehicle, was on fire with the driver trapped inside, authorities said. The second vehicle had two occupants inside. <\/p>\n
A utility pole was severed in the crash, sending live electrical wires into the roadway and creating additional dangers for first responders and the public, police said. <\/p>\n

Bethlehem police, fire crews, and EMS personnel worked to rescue the victims and secure the scene. Three people were taken to local hospitals for treatment, but no updates on their conditions were released.<\/p>\n
During the preliminary investigation, police determined the offending vehicle may have entered Route 378 northbound from the wrong direction using the Main Street ramp shortly before the crash. <\/p>\n
The crash remains under investigation by Bethlehem Police Patrol officers, the Criminal Investigations Division, and the Major Accident Reconstruction Team. The Northampton County District Attorney\u2019s Office will review the findings to determine whether charges are warranted, police said. <\/p>\n
New Street and Elizabeth Avenue remained closed Thursday afternoon as utility crews repaired the damaged pole and electrical lines. Police asked drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.<\/p>\n
