A major hotel project could soon transform Downtown Pittsburgh and expand the city\u2019s ability to host large-scale events.<\/p>\n
State and local leaders announced Loews Hotels has signed a letter of intent to build a new 500-room hotel connected to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Harrisburg on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Officials say the project would generate more than 16,000 union jobs and bring a $418 million investment to Downtown Pittsburgh. <\/p>\n
The announcement follows the city\u2019s record-breaking NFL Draft turnout and is part of Governor Josh Shapiro\u2019s broader plan to revitalize downtown with new housing, public spaces and business development. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud of the progress we are making together to revitalize Downtown Pittsburgh and get stuff done for Western Pennsylvania \u2013 building more housing, creating safe and fun public spaces, and attracting businesses large and small to the Downtown neighborhood,\u201d said Governor Josh Shapiro. \u201cThis investment from Loews Hotels, supported by Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato and Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor, is another sign that Pittsburgh is on the rise, and it will help us bring even more exciting events like the Draft to Pennsylvania. We are going to continue to create real opportunity in the Commonwealth and ensure Pittsburgh is a great place to live, work, and play.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen the success that comes when we invest in Downtown Pittsburgh. We\u2019ve come a long way, but we\u2019re not done yet – we are continuing to build on that momentum,\u201d said Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor. \u201cThrough partnerships with the Governor\u2019s administration as well as our state and local officials, this hotel will deliver new economic opportunity by creating jobs and providing new opportunities for visitors and large scale events so that people can come experience Pittsburgh and support our small businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
