WYNNEWOOD, Pa. (WPVI) — A falling tree crushed two cars along Lancaster Avenue<\/a> near Stanford Drive in Wynnewood on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Lower Merion<\/a> police say the impact killed a 59-year-old woman and injured a 64-year-old woman.<\/p>\n

Emergency workers cut up the massive tree and used cranes to move the larger pieces.<\/p>\n

Ken Krivitsky says he drove by the horrific scene.<\/p>\n

“Very sad. Waiting to find out who and what happened to see if there is anything the community can do,” said Krivitsky. “This area has a lot of old trees, which is lovely 99 percent of the time and can be challenging some of the time.”<\/p>\n

Police shut down a portion of the road for five hours after this happened.<\/p>\n

It’s always a devastating call for EMS workers with Narberth Ambulance who responded to the scene.<\/p>\n

“It’s just kind of a freak accident. It’s hard to kind of know, especially on main thoroughfares like Lancaster Avenue,” said Patrick Glynn, the deputy chief of operations for Narberth Ambulance.<\/p>\n

Glynn says he has responded to similar calls throughout the years. He says it’s not exactly rare.<\/p>\n

“It happens more frequently than people think,” said Glynn.<\/p>\n

Lower Merion police tell Action News officers continue to investigate this case, and they are still trying to figure out who is responsible for the tree.<\/p>\n

A representative for Lower Merion says right now the ownership is undetermined.<\/p>\n

Police have not released the identity of the 59-year-old victim.<\/p>\n
