A three-run, two-out rally in the sixth inning enabled the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to come back and beat the Syracuse Mets, 5-3, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at PNC Field in Moosic and gain a split of the six-game set.

Trailing, 3-2, Payton Henry started things with a one-out single. Jonathan Ornelas grounded into a fielder’s choice for the second out. But Duke Ellis singled, sending Ornelas to third with Ellis advancing to second on the throw. Kenedy Corona walked to load the bases and George Lombard Jr. beat out an infield single to score Ornelas with the tying run. Yanquiel Fernandez then walked to force home Ellis with the go-ahead run. A balk plated Corona to make it 5-3.

Kervin Castro pitched two scoreless innings and Bradley Hanner worked a scoreless ninth to complete the victory.

Yankees No. 4 prospect Carlos Lagrange started for the RailRiders and allowed two runs on three hits in five innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

Syracuse took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off Lagrange on a two-run double by Christian Arroyo. But the RailRiders tied it in the third when Lombard singled, Fernandez walked, Marco Luciano hit a RBI double and Oswaldo Cabrera lofted a sacrifice fly.

Yonny Hernandez’s RBI single in the top of the sixth off reliever Dylan Coleman put Syracuse back in front. But Coleman (1-0) wound up getting the win when the RailRiders rallied in the bottom-half of the inning.

On Tuesday, the RailRiders (23-20) head to Coca-Cola Park in Allentown to begin a six-game series and first meeting of the season with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

A three-run, two-out rally in the sixth inning enabled the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to come back and beat the…

[15
51447,178,180,179,726
post-195384","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-scranton","tag-rail-riders","tag-scranton","tag-scranton-headlines","tag-scranton-news","tag-sports
["GET
