WILKES-BARRE, Pa. \u2013 The Springfield Thunderbirds<\/a> and the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins<\/a> met on Thursday night in Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Finals. Springfield pulled off a thrilling 4-3 overtime win to even the series at one game apiece before heading home for Games 3 and 4.<\/p>\n

The Penguins came out strong and controlled much of the first half of the game. Bill Zonnon opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:42 of the first period, his second goal of the playoffs. Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton kept the pressure on through the second period and added to its lead with goals from Tristan Broz and Avery Hayes. By the second intermission, the Penguins were cruising with a 3-0 lead and a 30-14 advantage in shots on goal.<\/p>\n

Springfield answered in the third period. After the Thunderbirds were assessed a delay-of-game penalty and the Mohegan Sun Arena came alive, Hugh McGing quieted the crowd with a shorthanded goal just 55 seconds into the period. From there, Springfield continued to push and had the Penguins back on their heels, trying to hold onto the lead. Dillon Dube cut the deficit to one at 16:36, and less than two minutes later, he struck again at 18:10 to tie the game. The Thunderbirds dominated the third period, outshooting the Penguins 20-8.<\/p>\n

In overtime, Springfield kept up the pressure and got a huge save from goalie Georgi Romanov on Avery Hayes. Moments later, Aleksanteri Kaskimaki found Akil Thomas driving to the net. As Thomas was being tripped, he managed to get a shot off that went wide, bounced off the boards, and came back to the front of the net. Sliding in on his back, Thomas saw the puck carom off his body and into the net to complete the comeback.<\/p>\n

Springfield will look to carry that momentum into its home games on Tuesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n
