HOMESTEAD, Pa. \u2014 An 81-year-old woman and a family with a 2-year-old child escaped safely after a fire spread through four homes in Homestead early Monday morning.<\/p>\n
The Homestead Fire Chief said the fire started in one of two vacant homes next door.<\/p>\n
Click here for more photos from the scene<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI saw the reflection of flames in the house across the street,\u201d Kristin said. \u201cI ran downstairs, opened the front door and looked to the right, and before I could look I felt the heat,\u201d she said. \u201cI looked to the right and there were just flames pouring out of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n The Bakers said the home had belonged to Sean Baker\u2019s grandparents.<\/p>\n Next door, Barbara Eberett said she tried to use a stair lift to get out of her home, but the fire intensified too quickly.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fire got so intense that I just left the stair lift and came out the door, and I fell out the door and fell down the stairs and rolled in the grass,\u201d Eberett said.<\/p>\n Sean Baker said the families escaped around the same time.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all kind of came out at the same time, which was kind of a miracle,\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s 81 years old and she was running out.
