DURYEA, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — A Luzerne County man is behind bars after police say children in a neighborhood alerted neighbors that their mother had been stabbed inside a Duryea home.

Officers from Duryea, Avoca, and Dupont responded Sunday evening to the 100 block of Lackawanna Avenue after reports that children were crying and telling people a man had attacked their mother.

When police arrived, they found a woman suffering from a suspected stab wound to her upper leg. She was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital.

Investigators say the suspect was still inside the home when officers arrived and was already the subject of an active Protection from Abuse order.

Police attempted to take the man into custody, but authorities say he initially refused to come outside. Officers began preparing search and arrest warrants before the suspect eventually exited the residence voluntarily and surrendered without incident.

The suspect now faces charges including aggravated assault, violating a Protection from Abuse order, simple assault, and harassment.

Court records show bail was denied following arraignment, and the man remains in Luzerne County Prison.

DURYEA, LUZERNE CO.
