Pennsylvania voters are heading to the polls Tuesday and election officials are gearing up for a busy day across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay has more on one group\u2019s push for voters to do research before casting ballots.<\/p>\n
From campaign ads to social media posts, voters are seeing a flood of information on Election Day, but not all of it is accurate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey may be AI, they may not even be verifiable so we always say consider the source, check the date, cross check information before you share it,\u201d said Barbara Connolly.<\/p>\n
Connolly is with the League of Women Voters of Lehigh County, a non-partisan group of women and men that help register voters and provide information on elections.<\/p>\n
She says doing your due diligence when it comes to all candidates is important.<\/p>\n
\u201cConsider what candidates, what policies that they feel strongly about really meet their needs as a citizen,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
Although voter turnout tends to dip outside of a presidential election year, Connolly says primary elections are where residents can make a local impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the potholes, it\u2019s the school boards, it\u2019s the decisions that are made locally that affect your life and the state also,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
With the polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, she explains that democracy is strongest when everyone casts their ballots.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes elections are decided on a very, very close margin so every vote really, really counts, especially the closer you get to home,\u201d Connolly said.<\/p>\n
State officials are encouraging voters to double check their polling place before heading out the door.<\/p>\n
