BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bethlehem Area School District has chosen a new superintendent.<\/p>\n
Dr. Renato M. Lajara will succeed Dr. Jack P. Silva, who will retire on June 30, according to a news release from the district.<\/p>\n
The district school board must still approve his appointment.<\/p>\n
The district says it will share additional transition details in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
Lajara is an accomplished educational leader and dedicated student advocate known for his ethical, equitable, and student-centered approach to leadership, the district says.<\/p>\n
Lajara oversees 15 schools and more than 8,000 students in his current role as Assistant Superintendent for Network 8 in the School District of Philadelphia, according to the news release.<\/p>\n
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Lajara\u2019s personal journey as an English Language Learner informs his deep commitment to ensuring all students, regardless of background, have access to a high-quality education, the district says.<\/p>\n
The district says Lajara has demonstrated success in transforming school culture, improving instructional practices, and closing opportunity gaps throughout his career.<\/p>\n
