Lemon Hill residents gathered virtually on Monday night to learn of Philadelphia\u2019s plan to \u201cmanage the thousands of FIFA Fan Festival attendees and road traffic entering their neighborhood this summer,\u201d according to Henry Savage of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Representatives from the Office of Special Events, the Philadelphia Parking Authority and the city\u2019s World Cup Host Committee, Philadelphia Soccer 2026, unveiled that \u201clarge swaths of the neighborhood will need to navigate parking restrictions, road closures, and the city\u2019s disabling of rideshare services, a practice known as \u2018geofencing,\u2019 in certain areas.\u201d Sources said that they have been \u201cwaiting for months for more information from the city and Philadelphia Soccer 2026 on how the fan festival will impact their daily lives.\u201d Savage added some residents \u201cstill have concerns over parking during the festival, and the legacy of Lemon Hill Park once the event ends.\u201d During the FIFA Fan Festival, Lemon Hill will be \u201ceffectively inaccessible to all vehicle traffic, and pedestrian traffic in some areas.\u201d While many neighbors are \u201cexcited to welcome thousands of fans to the neighborhood, many still feel their concerns are an afterthought in order to entertain the city\u2019s guests.\u201d Philadelphia Soccer 2026 has \u201ccommitted to investing millions in Lemon Hill Park once the thousands of fans have trodden its fields and the booths have been removed.\u201d Some of the discussed improvements include \u201creseeding the grass, installing new ADA-accessible sidewalks, and rebuilding the picnic pavilion\u201d (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 5\/18<\/a>). <\/p>\n

MIAMI MERCH: In Miami, Catherine Odom reported the official FIFA World Cup 2026 Store in Miami had its grand opening Monday, and \u201cfour more stores will open in Miami-Dade County leading up to the tournament.\u201d FIFA World Cup 2026 Exec Dir\/Commercial Operations Ross McCall said that FIFA chose to open its first store for the 2026 World Cup in the Miami area because it is \u201chome for the organization,\u201d as FIFA\u2019s American offices are in Coral Gables. He added that \u201cMiami-Dade\u2019s connections to Latin America and the popularity of soccer in the area made it a natural choice.\u201d McCall said that he thinks \u201cthe retail component is important to fans.\u201d He added that \u201cbuying merch helps fans \u2018connect to the tournament\u2019\u201d (MIAMI HERALD, 5\/18<\/a>).<\/p>\n
