The Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 15-4 on Tuesday evening at Coca-Cola Park to capture the 2026 IronRail Series opener. The high-scoring victory followed a strong performance by the Rochester Red Wings, who shut out the IronPigs 3-0 on Sunday at ESL Ballpark.<\/p>\n

According to milb.com, the Red Wings concluded a successful week by taking five of six games from Lehigh Valley. The streak moved Rochester into first place in the International League East<\/a> with a 25-20 record. Luis Perales and five relief pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout during that series finale.<\/p>\n

Perales and Lehigh Valley starter Chuck King pitched three scoreless innings before Rochester scored in the fourth. Dylan Crews hit a ground-rule double, advanced on a groundout, and scored on an Andres Chaparro single. Andrew Pinckney added an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0 after Hassell reached on an error.<\/p>\n

Perales exited with an injury in the fifth inning. Relievers Andre Granillo, Cole Henry, Luke Young, and Jack Sinclair maintained the lead. Sinclair escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning via a double play. The Red Wings added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Chaparro doubled to bring home Crews.<\/p>\n

Erik Tolman secured the shutout in the ninth with two strikeouts. Two days later, the IronPigs faced the RailRiders, who generated a 15-hit attack. Yanquiel Fernandez led the offense by hitting two home runs and driving in six runs, matching his second six-RBI game of the season.<\/p>\n

The RailRiders took a 1-0 lead in the third when Duke Ellis singled, stole second, and scored on a Fernandez single. Dylan Carlson tied the game for Lehigh Valley with a solo home run in the fourth. Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre regained the lead in the fifth when Jonathan Ornelas scored on an error by MLB rehabber Max Lazar.<\/p>\n

Fernandez then hit a 401-foot, two-run home run to right field. The IronPigs responded with two runs to narrow the deficit to 4-3. In the sixth, Ornelas hit an RBI double and George Lombard Jr. delivered a two-run single to extend the RailRiders’ advantage to 7-3.<\/p>\n

Both teams scored one run apiece in the seventh inning. The RailRiders broke the game open in the eighth with back-to-back home runs. Oswaldo Cabrera hit a three-run homer, and Seth Brown followed with a solo shot to establish a 12-4 lead.<\/p>\n

Fernandez completed the scoring in the ninth inning with a three-run home run. Eight of nine Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre batters recorded at least one hit. Ornelas accumulated four hits, while Lombard Jr., Fernandez, and Brown each collected three hits.<\/p>\n

Brendan Beck started for the RailRiders, striking out five and allowing three runs on six hits over four-plus innings.
