It’s been a hot and humid week, but a strong cold front capable of producing some strong thunderstorms later this afternoon through early this evening is about to change that.<\/p>\n
Severe thunderstorm watches have been posted for most of the area through 9pm this evening. A watch highlights the potential for a few strong to severe thunderstorms, capable of strong and damaging wind gusts and hail. Any thunderstorm, severe or not, can produce heavy downpours and frequent lightning.<\/p>\n
While it’s hot and sunny as of early afternoon, we’ll watch the later afternoon hours, as early as 3pm in the I-81 corridor, 4pm in the Lehigh Valley, and 5pm farther south and east, for storms to approach from the west. Not everyone sees a severe thunderstorm, but the potential for a few stronger storms is there, given the high heat and humidity.<\/p>\n

Damaging wind gusts up to 60+mph are possible in any stronger storms, as is penny size hail.<\/p>\n
The thunderstorm threat will shift south and east towards sunset towards the coast, and as the cold front slides through, the heat will be swept away, and replaced by much cooler weather the rest of the week.<\/p>\n
