Teaming up with the\u00a0Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, FashionAFRICANA presents this immersive evening celebrating \u201cthe transformative power of Black women\u201d with couture, film, orchestral performance and philanthropy. The curated gala kicks off with a star-studded red carpet, followed by the U.S. premiere of Simon Frederick\u2019s film, \u201cThe Unspoken Elegance of Stillness: A Love Letter to Black Women.\u201d The film\u2019s score, composed by Grammy-nominated composer\u00a0Carlos Simon, will be performed live by the\u00a0PSO.<\/p>\n Gala-goers will be treated to an after-party featuring\u00a0DJ Adapta\u00a0and the Thomas Wendt Trio. Boasting the best race views in town, our region\u2019s very own \u201ctour de Burgh\u201d has a vibrant energy for runners and spectators alike. <\/p>\n Kicking off near Station Square, the 10-mile course crosses three of Pittsburgh\u2019s iconic yellow bridges and travels through the West End, North Side and Strip District. An Enchanted Winter\u2019s Eve<\/a>\u00a0at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens: Nov. 21, 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n Wander under the stars through glittering gardens, inhale the scents of fragrant blooms and meet whimsical topiary animals around every corner. No, this is not a storyboard form the latest Pixar animation film \u2014 it\u2019s a magical gala at a Pittsburgh landmark. It\u2019s also that one night every year when Phipps kicks off the holiday season in grand style \u2014 and you\u2019re on the invite list. Watch the flames fly as Pittsburgh Glass Center makes holiday ornaments and cozy up to animal friends from Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium. Enjoy live music from River City Brass Band, Cello Fury and Pittsburgh Opera and see ice transformed into winter sculptures. The unforgettable evening culminates with a grand finale performance by the Three Rivers Ringers handbell ensemble. Highmark Light Up Night<\/a> in Downtown Pittsburgh: Nov. 22<\/p>\n Today we\u2019re focused on making last-minute adjustments to our Halloween<\/a> costumes and finalizing party plans, but soon it will be time to flip the switch and turn on the holiday glow. But first, a history nugget: Did you know that the very first Light Up Night was held Downtown on Nov. 21, 1960, and was reported to be the first of its kind in the country? All the details for this year\u2019s Light Up Night festivities will be unveiled by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Heinz Hall, but for now, we have a few key updates to keep in mind. Due to ongoing construction in Market Square, this year\u2019s Peoples Gas Holiday Market will temporarily relocate to various locations throughout the Cultural District. Installation of the charming chalets is now underway. A holiday favorite for nearly 15 years, the signature market runs from Nov. 21 through Dec. 24.<\/p>\n Light Up Night offers a mix of heartwarming traditions and new attractions, from dramatic tree lightings to gliding around the high-tech tree at The UPMC Rink at PPG Place to the culminating fireworks display. A main attraction since 1999, the colossal Pittsburgh Cr\u00e8che is the only authorized replica of the nativity featured in St. Peter\u2019s Basilica in Rome. Information<\/a>.<\/p>\n 9. Dazzling Nights<\/a>\u00a0at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden: Opens Nov. 28<\/p>\n Looking for a new family tradition, an out-of-the-ordinary date night, or a memorable adventure with friends this holiday season? While Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is one of our favorite places to visit\u00a0throughout all four seasons, it\u2019s quite a sight to behold in the winter. Back with more radiance to light up those gloomy Western Pennsylvania nights, the holiday attraction transforms 65 acres of gardens into a winter wonderland of immersive light and color. <\/p>\n Follow a mile-long path to visit 20 unique realms illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights, from a glittering tunnel of stars and a field of flickering flowers to a mesmerizing laser show. It\u2019s that joyous November night when the historic East Liberty venue honors its renowned namesakes with a \u201cfresh take on beloved standards.\u201d Tap your toes, snaps those fingers and groove to Cuban beats while celebrating visionary Pittsburgh artists Billy Strayhorn and Gene Kelly. Musical maestro for the night is bandleader Hugo Cruz, who will reimagine their iconic works by incorporating Latin percussion. The exciting performance also spotlights direction by Pria Dahiya, lighting design by El Wolhardt and an all-star lineup of special musical guests. The festivities kick off with an exclusive VIP Soundcheck reception at 6 p.m., followed by the marquee event at 7:30 p.m. It\u2019s one concert that won\u2019t break the bank, because tickets are available on a \u201cPay What Moves You\u201d basis<\/a>.<\/p>\n 11. Winter Warmer Beer Festival<\/a>\u00a0at The Pennsylvanian: Nov. 29<\/p>\n Drinking a beer on your couch is relaxing, but sipping suds inside a Beaux Arts landmark<\/a> while wearing your PJs (you got that right) is a night to remember. Turning the Downtown jewel into a Burgh Beer Hall, the Winter Warmer showcases a mouth-watering variety of unique and innovative \u201ccold-weather beers\u201d freshly made for the season. There are more than 18 beer-makers to explore, from Strange Roots, Allusion Brewing, Cinderlands, Brew Gentlemen and Grist House, to Chimera Brewing, Four Seasons, Top Dog Cocktails and more. No beer fest is complete without sustenance, which is why Cold Friends Kitchen and Pittsburgh Smokehouse are serving up hearty bites.
