Johnson College\u2019s Workforce Advancement & Value-Added Education department is offering a series of hands-on training courses and workshops in May and June at its Scranton campus.<\/p>\n
The following is the schedule of upcoming courses and workshops:<\/p>\n
Forklift (Powered Industrial Lift Truck) Operator Training Course: Saturday, May 30, 8:30 a.m.\u20134:30 p.m. Designed to familiarize students with OSHA Powered Industrial Truck Operator Training Requirements (29CFR Standard 1910.178 and ASME B56.1), provide current training requirements under the newly adopted standards and assist participants in becoming an authorized operator of forklifts through theory and tactile testing. Cost is $200.<\/p>\n
Home Repair Workshop: Saturday, May 30, 8:30 a.m.\u20134:30 p.m. Comprehensive, one-day Home Repair Workshop is designed to build practical skills and confidence in essential home maintenance. Cost is $75.<\/p>\n
NFPA 70E \u2013 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace Course: Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m.\u20133:30 p.m. Join the WAVE team and Steve Vidal, electrical safety trainer, for an in-depth training on NFPA 70E, the nationally recognized standard that supports OSHA compliance for electrical safety. The course is designed for anyone working on or near energized equipment and focuses on practical ways to reduce risk and prevent serious injuries. Cost is $375.<\/p>\n
Tai Chi Workshop: Saturdays, May 30, June 6 and June 13, 2\u20133:30 p.m. Three-week workshop is led by Master Instructor Wayne Wolfe, a teacher of traditional Yang style tai chi chuan with over 30 years of experience. Participants will learn a nine-minute motion group designed to circulate energy throughout the body in a relaxed and mindful way. The workshop is suitable for all fitness levels. Cost is $50.<\/p>\n
285 Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Training Course: June 8\u2013Aug. 27, 4 to 10:15 p.m. This 285-hour noncredit certificate Computer Numerical Control training is designed for individuals looking to enter the high-demand machining field. The program covers the theory and hands-on practice of both conventional and computer numerical control machining fields. Cost is $5,000.<\/p>\n
Medical Assistant Training Course: June 15\u2013Sept. 28, 5\u20139:30 p.m. This 260-hour program prepares students to assist physicians by performing clinical functions in a medical office. This includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, performing routine laboratory procedures, administering pharmacology and taking and documenting vital signs. Students will also learn the fundamentals of phlebotomy and venipuncture, as well as anatomy and physiology and medical terminology. Upon completion, students will have the option to take the leading national\/industry recognized National Healthcareer Association\u2019s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam. Total cost is $6,000 (includes textbooks and exam voucher).<\/p>\n
