State police have released details of a two-vehicle crash that fatally injured a Berks County motorcyclist last week on Route 183 near Bernville.<\/p>\n
Nicholas DePietro, 38, of Reading was pronounced dead on May 17 at 2:42 p.m. in Reading Hospital by emergency department staff.<\/p>\n
The crash happened at Route 183 and Shartlesville Road in Penn Township shortly before 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
According to troopers at the Reading station:<\/p>\n
DePietro was riding southbound on Route 183 when he approached an SUV that was stopped in the southbound lane waiting for traffic to clear to turn left onto Shartlesville Road.<\/p>\n
DePietro tried to swerve around the vehicle but rear-ended the SUV, launching him onto the northbound shoulder. He wasn\u2019t wearing a helmet.<\/p>\n
He died of multiple injuries, and the crash was ruled accidental, according to the Berks County coroner\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
A test administered by the coroner\u2019s office determined DePietro had methamphetamine in his system.<\/p>\n
The SUV driver, a 31-year-old Schuylkill County woman, and her passenger, a 30-year-old Schuylkill man, were uninjured.<\/p>\n
