Pierre Robert, who made a name for himself as an esteemed radio DJ for 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia for decades, has passed away at the age of 70.<\/p>\n
The news was confirmed on Wednesday by the station, which issued a statement<\/a> alongside a memorial post on its website:<\/p>\n \u201cWe all have heavy hearts today,\u201d said Beasley Media Group CEO Caroline Beasley. \u201cPierre\u2019s unwavering love for music and his deep connection with listeners made him one of radio\u2019s most enduring and beloved voices. He will be greatly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n Robert joined WMMR in 1981, setting in action a career that spanned decades and made him a household name in the Philadelphia music and radio community, remaining a presence on the station for years.<\/p>\n Along the way, Robert became known to music icons from all over the spectrum, who grew to appreciate his interview style and outgoing personality.<\/p>\n Some of these music figures have since shared reflections since hearing of his death.<\/p>\n Said Alice Cooper:<\/p>\n Jon Bon Jovi issued a lengthy, personal statement:<\/p>\n Today we lost a great friend. This man was as curious as he was clever, he was a real musicologist. He knew your influence and your influences.
He was a loyal friend. He didn\u2019t care if you were the fad or the fashion of the moment. He just cared.
And that mattered.
I\u2019ve often talked about the loneliest man in showbiz.
The DJ, someone who preached the gospel of the song to anyone who would listen.. this man was also very in touch with his humanity.
His voice helped the hungry and the homeless, and he did it because he cared..
About you, about me, about making the world a little kinder wonder filled place to live.. his memory will live with us as it will with all of the people he touched.
