A Pottstown man has been charged with assaulting Upper Darby police officers after he spit in their face.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, police charged John H. Williams, 40, of the 300 block of New Street with three counts of assaulting a police officer, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.<\/p>\n
According to the criminal complaint filed by Officer Robert Scott Jr.:<\/p>\n
Units were called at 8:43 a.m. to the area of Hillcrest and Fairfax roads for a male walking around yelling.<\/p>\n
Police arrived to find a man in white shirt and gray shorts walking in the 400 block of Irvington Road talking to himself and possibly under the influence of something.<\/p>\n
When police made contact with Williams he became very aggressive and angry.<\/p>\n
Police determined him to be under the influence of narcotics and placed him into custody, sitting him on the curb until a transport vehicle arrived.<\/p>\n
While waiting, Williams spit on an officer\u2019s boots.<\/p>\n
Police said Williams continued to show signs of being under the influence with his aggressiveness towards Officers and foaming at the mouth.<\/p>\n
While being placed in the transport vehicle, Williams spit on the arm of another officer, and stated, \u201cI\u2019ll kill all you mother ******\u201d<\/p>\n
At the police station Williams again threatened officers, and as they placed him in a cellblock Williams spit directly in the face of an officer, hitting him in the eyes and mouth.<\/p>\n
Williams was arraigned before District Judge James Merkins who set bail at 10 percent of $100,000, which Williams was unable to post and taken to the Delaware County prison. A preliminary hearing before Merkins is scheduled for June 7.<\/p>\n
