{"id":199859,"date":"2026-05-22T14:29:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T14:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/199859\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T14:29:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T14:29:07","slug":"residents-escape-overnight-inferno-in-upper-darby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/199859\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents escape overnight inferno in Upper Darby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All residents safely escaped an overnight fire in Upper Darby.<\/p>\n<p>Fire crews were dispatched Friday about 2 a.m. to a house fire in the 200 block of Rocklyn Road, with initial reports indicating possible entrapment.<\/p>\n<p>Upper Darby Assistant Fire Chief Robert Callahan said firefighters quickly responded, arriving to flames from the basement up over the roof of the two-story middle-of-the-row dwelling. A working fire dispatch was sounded, bringing additional assistance.<\/p>\n<p>All residents had safely fled the house prior to the arrival of firefighters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Six residents were displaced. (COURTESY OF UPPER DARBY PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS)<\/p>\n<p>Units in the alley deployed hose lines to knock down the fire and limit the spread. The fire was contained to the original building and placed under control at 3:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were no injuries and firefighters worked quickly and with precision. They did a good job containing the blaze,\u201d Callahan said.<\/p>\n<p>Six residents from the home were displaced. They found housing with family members and did not request assistance from the Red Cross. The residents of the adjoining homes were able to return to their residences, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The five township stations responded, with mutual aid assistance from Darby, Clifton Heights, Lansdowne and Llanerch companies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"All residents safely escaped an overnight fire in Upper Darby.
