Two females attempted to steal about $2,500 worth of clothing from Boscov\u2019s on May 11, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
At about 5 p.m., personnel at the downtown Scranton store spotted Johanna Luscher, 21, and a juvenile entering a second-floor fitting room area with multiple items of children\u2019s clothing, found it suspicious and alerted loss-prevention personnel, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Employees then spotted the two making their way to the first floor of the store, where they entered another fitting room with multiple items of clothing and exited the room with nothing in their hands, police said.<\/p>\n
At one point, the two allegedly left the fitting room with three Boscov\u2019s bags filled with clothing and then walked out of the store.<\/p>\n
Store personnel followed the two and soon found them on Lackawanna Avenue near Starbucks.<\/p>\n
Loss-prevention Manager Robert Admire approached the pair and told them they were committing a crime.<\/p>\n
The two originally resisted but then went back inside the store with Admire, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
When responding police officers asked why they had attempted to steal the clothes, the two said they were trying to help their families, who were struggling financially.<\/p>\n
The two said they had been in the Marketplace at Steamtown for dental appointments, entered Boscov\u2019s and then agreed to the theft, police said.<\/p>\n
Boscov\u2019s personnel valued the amount of merchandise the two attempted to steal at $2,508.<\/p>\n
Luscher, of Olyphant, is charged with criminal conspiracy and retail theft.\u00a0She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday before District Judge Alyce Farrell.<\/p>\n
