Six Rust Belt cities are seeing a surge of new listings, and all of them have median listing prices under $300,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In April, just six cities out of the top 100 markets had typical home prices<\/a> below $300,000, and all had a swell of new listings. <\/p>\n

Most were in the Midwest<\/a>, where home sales have outperformed the national level this year, likely due to the relative affordability of homes in the region<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh<\/a>\u00a0held the lowest median listing price for the month, at $248,625, followed by\u00a0Detroit<\/a>, at $248,900.\u00a0Cleveland<\/a>;\u00a0Buffalo, NY<\/a>;\u00a0St. Louis<\/a>; and\u00a0Birmingham, AL<\/a>, also made the list.<\/p>\n

All of those cities also saw a year-over-year growth in active listing count. Buffalo\u2019s count surged by 20.5% in that time, and Detroit\u2019s grew by 20%.<\/p>\n

Realtor.com\u00ae<\/a>\u00a0senior economist\u00a0Hannah Jones\u00a0says that the Midwest continues to be a magnet for mobile people who are priced out of the more expensive metros. <\/p>\n

Detroit held the second-lowest median listing price for the month, at $248,900.<\/p>\n

This recent rise in listings, which isn\u2019t uniform across the country, could give those home shoppers more options than they\u2019ve had in years.<\/p>\n

\u201cRust Belt cities<\/a> have a real opportunity to market themselves as the antidote to coastal sticker shock,\u201d Jones said. <\/p>\n

\u201cBuyers<\/a> can still afford something closer to their dream home in these markets, rather than settling for something less than ideal in a higher-cost metro.\u201d<\/p>\n

The data comes as the housing market at large\u00a0weathers economic uncertainty<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Builders report\u00a0more confidence<\/a>\u00a0in the housing market this spring, according to data from the National Association of Home Builders. <\/p>\n

But home construction has\u00a0mostly slowed down this year<\/a>\u00a0as builders contend with rising construction and labor costs.<\/p>\n
