{"id":200732,"date":"2026-05-23T15:35:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T15:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/200732\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T15:35:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T15:35:10","slug":"troy-meeting-will-address-citys-flock-camera-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/200732\/","title":{"rendered":"Troy meeting will address city&#8217;s Flock camera policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Troy officials are holding a public safety meeting Thursday night to address <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/capital-region\/politics\/2026\/05\/20\/troy-leaders-agree-on-new-policies-for-flock-license-plate-reader-cameras\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the city&#8217;s updated policy<\/a> concerning the use of license plate reader cameras.<\/p>\n<p>The district attorney and police chief will be at the 5:30 p.m. meeting to answer questions.<\/p>\n<p>The cameras have been at the center of a firestorm between Mayor Carmella Mantello and City Council President Sue Steele.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the mayor declared a state of emergency after the city council refused to fund the city&#8217;s contract with Flock. The city council then sued over that decision.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.troyny.gov\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The new framework introduced this week<\/a> includes an explicit ban on using the cameras for immigrant-related enforcement or monitoring first-amendment protected activities. It also includes annual audits of the system.<\/p>\n<p>Mantello says the new policy is tied to a commitment to both public safety and civil liberties.
