In a previous post, the Western Pennsylvania-based brewery said the historic keepsake, which is planned to be turned into a memorial plaque honoring the late former Head Brewer Andy Rich, had been stolen on Sunday. “The original bottom of our copper brew kettle, a thick 4-foot section removed during a 2023 repair, was taken from the brewery. While some may see scrap metal, this piece represented decades of Penn Brewery history and craftsmanship,” Penn Brewery said in its first post about the incident. “Amid everything else happening around us, it is disappointing that anyone would choose to take something with such deep historical and sentimental value to the brewery and to those who worked here through the years.”On Saturday, May 23, the brewery issued a new post, saying thanks to help from City of Pittsburgh police, the thick 4-foot section removed from the company’s original copper brew kettle was found. “Thanks to Zone 1, the piece was spared, located unmelted at the bottom of a scrap pile, and safely returned (albeit a little smudgier), and the suspects have both been charged,” the brewery said. “We would like to say how incredibly grateful to all yinz and really all of Pittsburgh who shared the story and helped spread the word.”It is unclear how many charges the suspects will face.
