{"id":201327,"date":"2026-05-24T15:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T15:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/201327\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T15:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T15:08:08","slug":"pittsburgh-councilman-plans-to-introduce-legislation-that-would-tax-skill-games-juke-boxes-wpxi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/201327\/","title":{"rendered":"Pittsburgh councilman plans to introduce legislation that would tax skill games, juke boxes \u2013 WPXI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">PITTSBURGH \u2014 A Pittsburgh councilman plans to propose a tax he says could bring in millions of much-needed revenue for the city. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Councilman Anthony Coghill plans to introduce a bill on Wednesday that would create the Mechanical Amusement Device Tax. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The three-tiered tax would be for amusement devices \u2014 like pool tables, skill games and jukeboxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Coghill said he drafted the legislation to align with \u201ctaxes on the books in half of the municipalities in Allegheny County and one-fifth of municipalities statewide.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the explosion of these devices across the city over the last few years and with the need for Pittsburgh to generate new revenue sources that don\u2019t further burden our homeowners and renters I believe that now is the time to introduce this much needed legislation,\u201d Councilman Coghill said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Coghill says the tax could generate between $2-3 million a year for the city, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/mayor-oconnors-administration-introduces-revised-budget-after-reports-pittsburgh-deficit\/OZGGAZGFXBCRLANPAK3XV2J3DU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/mayor-oconnors-administration-introduces-revised-budget-after-reports-pittsburgh-deficit\/OZGGAZGFXBCRLANPAK3XV2J3DU\/\">projecting a budget deficit<\/a> for the second year in a row.
