(WHTM) \u2014 Democrats endorsed by Gov. Josh Shapiro won primary races across Pennsylvania on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Bob Brooks, Bob Harvie and Janelle Stelson were all endorsed by the governor in contested congressional races and will take on incumbent Republicans in November. But in one of the races Shapiro didn\u2019t wade into, the 3rd Congressional District in Philadelphia, Democratic socialist State Rep. Chris Rabb beat out establishment candidates.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Democratic Party as we know it in Philadelphia, let\u2019s say from 1951 when the party itself broke the near century-long Republican domination, to let\u2019s say this week, there was an effort beginning in 2017, Dennis, from the left progressives to beat the machine, the Democratic city committee,\u201d said Charles McElwee, editor of Real Clear Pennsylvania on \u201cThis Week in Pennsylvania.\u201d<\/p>\n
If there\u2019s any sign of friction between Rabb and Shapiro, when asked whether the governor fails to stand in the moral center, the Philadelphia state representative said, \u201cIt depends on the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rabb is all but a lock in November because of Philadelphia\u2019s deep blue constituency. Some argue his victory could mean a new era for the state\u2019s largest Democratic county committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt shows that the left is ascendant in Philadelphia,\u201d McElwee said. \u201cIt\u2019s part of a broader dynamic. The political class, in so many parts of Philadelphia but across the state, the country, no longer represents the people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some argue such a shift could pose a threat to Shapiro\u2019s dynamic rise to power in the party, one he will hope to solidify come November. Others aren\u2019t so certain that a single race can have such ramifications.<\/p>\n
