EASTON, Pa. – The Easton Criterium is zooming in for the sixth year.<\/p>\n
“I think Easton has a lot of charm,” said Caroline Barkman.<\/p>\n
She traveled from Boston for another race through center city.<\/p>\n
“I did quite well. I ended up getting second place, so I’ve now catted up. I’m a cat three this year, so I’m looking forward to participating in the women’s 3\/4,” said Barkman.<\/p>\n
Barkman is one of nearly 600 riders here.<\/p>\n
“It’s really amazing, right. This is one of the country’s premier events and to be able to have it here in the Lehigh Valley is really special,” said Gabe Lloyd, co-event director.<\/p>\n
Lloyd said the Criterium has become a regional draw.<\/p>\n
“We actually have a bus load of guys who actually drove up from South Carolina. We have a number of riders from Ohio, New York, Connecticut and New England,” said Lloyd.<\/p>\n
All a boost for local businesses, like Scratch. Where food orders keep coming in.<\/p>\n
“It was slow and now it’s crazy,” said Michelle Errickson, who works at Scratch.<\/p>\n
Errickson said Scratch’s business will likely pick up even more throughout the day.<\/p>\n
“We really enjoy all the families that come in. That’s probably the best part,” said Errickson.<\/p>\n
All in a city hosting riders, like Barkman for one of the country’s increasingly popular bike events.<\/p>\n
“I think it’s a cute town. I am so happy to be back this year.
