{"id":202335,"date":"2026-05-26T05:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T05:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/202335\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T05:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T05:14:10","slug":"union-pacific-big-boy-train-heads-east-toward-pa-berks-regional-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/202335\/","title":{"rendered":"Union Pacific &#8216;Big Boy&#8217; train heads east toward Pa. | Berks Regional News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Union Pacific &#8220;Big Boy&#8221; No. 4014 train is heading our way.<\/p>\n<p>Union Pacific announced today that the massive train is starting the eastern leg of its journey.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s on a coast-to-coast tour in honor of America&#8217;s 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>The train left its home base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s even a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.up.com\/about-us\/history\/steam\/track\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website where you can track the train&#8217;s progress<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The train is expected to be in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.up.com\/about-us\/history\/steam\/schedule\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Berks County on July 2<\/a>, on its way to Pottstown and Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>According to Union Pacific, only 25 \u201cBig Boy\u201d trains were commissioned for the railroad company, starting back in 1941. They measure 133 feet long and weigh 1.2 million pounds.<\/p>\n<p>No. 4014 was retired in Dec. 1961 after traveling 1,031,205 miles, but Union Pacific reacquired it for a multiyear restoration that returned it to service in 2019.
