She was the beloved wife of Joseph T. Kelly, Sr., D.M.D. She was born on September 6, 1941 in Scranton, the daughter of the late Ann G. McHugh Campbell and Daniel J. Campbell.

Amy was a proud graduate of Scranton Central High School Class of 1959. She and Joe met as teenagers at Lake Ariel Beach where a friendship quickly developed into a lifelong love. They were looking forward to celebrating their sixtieth wedding anniversary this year on July 2. They almost made it! Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, hard work, devotion to God and a home that never stayed quiet for long.

She carried her Scranton roots and her Irish spirit with her wherever she traveled throughout her life. Often she was heard before she was seen. Her laugh arrived first-a bright ringing burst that gathered people in and let them know something good was already underway. She was the heart of every gathering-the kind of hostess who didn’t just open her door, but made you feel like you had always belonged there. Her table was never empty, her kitchen always busy, and her parties were well known. There was always something cooking, something being poured, and someone laughing – usually with Amy leading the way. She traveled, danced, gathered friends and raised a glass whenever the moment allowed. She had a gift for turning ordinary days into something worth celebrating.

Amy’s corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread were staples of Saint Patrick’s Day while her crown roast of pork, cheese cake, and carrot cake became requested family favorites. But it wasn’t just the food-it was the way she made every occasion feel like a celebration. She knew how to enjoy life.

She was a constant and joyful presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren, rarely missing a game, recital, play, birthday, graduation, or any moment that mattered. Her grandchildren especially cherished “Grandma Camp”- a summer week of adventures when all the kids from near and far moved into her home for road trips, games, back yard events, great food, sweet treats and her breakfast oatmeal with the “secret ingredient” that was never revealed. They slept wherever they found a space and reveled in the fellowship of siblings and cousins and Grandma’s and Grandpa’s ever present love.

Christmas Eve at Amy and Joe’s home was a family tradition all its own-filled with music, carols, warmth, presents and a house glowing with light and her beloved Byer’s Choice carolers. It was in every sense her kind of night, full, lively and shared.

Amy was a long time member and past president of the Sant’ Andrea Society, an early avid tennis player, and later developed a love of golf. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association of the Country Club of Scranton and loved playing with fellow members and in mixed doubles with Joe and other couples. She was especially fond of the “nineteenth hole”.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her sons Joseph T. Kelly, Jr., DMD and his wife Kim Supon Kelly of Clarks Green and their children Campbell, Quinn and Rosey; Daniel R. Kelly, DMD and his wife Ellen Ramos Kelly, DMD of Charlottesville, VA and their children Nathan and Anna; and Christopher M. Kelly, Esq and his wife Beth Antinnes Kelly of Waverly and their children Seamus, Graham and Mitchell. She is also survived by her brother Robert Campbell of Scranton and his wife Elaine and several nieces and nephews.

Amy loved God, loved Joe, loved her kids, loved her family, loved her friends, and loved life. Truth be told, she wasn’t too happy about “checking out.”

The Kelly family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Atty. William Conaboy, President of Allied Services and to his staff of the Third Floor South of Allied Skilled Nursing. The staff exhibited exceptional professional skill, competence, compassion, good will and humor. They made Amy and our family feel like their family in so many different ways at sometimes difficult occasions and conditions, and as well we extend our gratitude to Laura Marion, RN director of Allied Hospice Service and her extraordinarily talented staff who cared for Amy the last few months of her stay at the Skilled Nursing Center.

Amy and Joe were founding members of the Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10:30 AM. At the Church of Saint Gregory 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green. Visiting hours will be at the Church of Saint Gregory on Thursday, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 PM.
