{"id":202877,"date":"2026-05-26T21:30:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T21:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/202877\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T21:30:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T21:30:08","slug":"state-park-repairs-have-1-billion-backlog-in-pennsylvania-harrisburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/202877\/","title":{"rendered":"State Park Repairs Have $1 Billion Backlog in Pennsylvania | Harrisburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pennsylvania state parks are roughly $1 billion behind on infrastructure projects, according to a recent report from Penn Environment.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/EARPC-Invest_In_Nature_April2026.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report looks specifically<\/a> at maintenance and repair backlogs across twenty-eight states. Pennsylvania\u2019s backlog estimate is from 2023. The report estimates it would take $76 from every Pennsylvanian to close the gap, and offers policy ideas for dedicating revenue to park projects.<\/p>\n<p>The Commonwealth has over 300,000 acres of state park land.<\/p>\n<p>While parks have unfinished projects, upgrades are being pushed through. Laurel Caverns State Park opened this year, hosting the commonwealth\u2019s largest cave.
