SEPTA<\/a>\u2019s trolley tunnel, connecting Center City<\/a> and West Philadelphia<\/a>, is now open overnight, at least for five days a week.<\/p>\n

Several of the T routes \u2013 formerly the 10, 34, 13, 11 and 36 \u2013 operate 24\/7, and all have been impacted by prolonged and periodic closures of the tunnel in recent months. Overnight service to Center City was restored Saturday, May 22, transit officials said.<\/p>\n

SEPTA representatives say they will continue to shut down the overnight tracks on Sunday and Monday nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for maintenance. T passengers will be diverted to 40th and Market streets during those times.<\/p>\n

Riders will not see the overnight hours reflected on SEPTA\u2019s website or app until June 14, when the authority rolls out its summer schedules. Individuals should refer to printed or PDF schedules dated Aug. 24, 2025<\/a> for accurate information in the meantime, SEPTA officials added.<\/p>\n

The tunnel reopened in January<\/a> following a roughly two-month closure that disrupted trips for tens of thousands of commuters. While the passage was shuttered, crews repaired and replaced the overhead catenary system, which had been damaged<\/a> after SEPTA replaced the sliders that connect the trolley car to the wires.<\/p>\n

Authority leaders have said the issue caused two trolleys to be stranded underground in October, prompting federal regulators to order SEPTA to inspect its entire catenary system.<\/p>\n

Since January, transit workers have been conducting frequent vehicle checks every time a trolley enters the tunnel and inspecting the overhead infrastructure during the overnight hours, according to SEPTA.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe results of this monitoring have shown that the tunnel is safe to reopen overnight for regular service,\u201d the authority posted in an online bulletin<\/a>.<\/p>\n
