ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Allentown controller and former city council member Jeff Glazier has died.<\/p>\n
Michaela Boyer, the Project Manager for the Mayor\u2019s Office, said Mayor Matt Tuerk is ordering for City of Allentown flags on city-owned property to fly at half-staff to honor him.<\/p>\n
The city\u2019s website says Glazier was appointed City Controller in 2016 and was reelected three times.<\/p>\n
He was also a former City Council member. He was appointed to a vacant seat on Allentown City Council in 2012.<\/p>\n
He also served on the Allentown School District Board of Directors for 12 years beginning in 1999.<\/p>\n
No word on the cause of his death.<\/p>\n
As City Controller, he was responsible for overseeing the city\u2019s finances and ensuring transparency and accountability in government operations, according to a news release from\u00a0Allentown City Council Public Affairs and Policy Officer Genesis Ortega.<\/p>\n
Ortega said\u00a0he approached that role with care and discipline, earning respect across city government for the seriousness with which he treated the public trust.<\/p>\n
“Jeff held firmly to the idea that government should be honest, careful, and accountable, even when the work was difficult or went unseen. That conviction shaped the way he served and the way he led throughout his career,” council said in its news release.<\/p>\n
“To many who knew him, he was more than a public official. He was also a steady and familiar presence in the community,”\u00a0Ortega said.<\/p>\n
Ortega said Glazier brought\u00a0warmth and personality into the workplace through his love of music. Colleagues also knew his office for the sound system and endless music collection he kept there and was always eager to share, Ortega said.<\/p>\n
Council says his dog Artemis could be seen by his side in the office\u00a0or walking through the building.<\/p>\n
“All the members of Allentown City Council extend their deepest condolences to Jeff\u2019s family, his friends, and all who are mourning him across the city,” the council said.<\/p>\n
“Allentown is better because Jeff Glazier chose to serve.”<\/p>\n
Council President Santo Napoli said, \u201cJeff Glazier loved this city and served it with a level of integrity and humility that set a standard for all of us. He cared deeply about the people of Allentown, and his absence will be felt across this community in ways that are both public and deeply personal.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI worked alongside Jeff for over a decade, during that time he became both a trusted colleague and a friend,\u201d Vice President Cynthia Mota shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe carried himself with kindness and thoughtfulness in every setting, and he never lost sight of the people he was serving. His passing is deeply personal to me and to many of us who knew him well. May his memory be a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Councilwoman Candida Affa said, \u201cThere are some people whose presence becomes woven into the life of a city itself. Jeff Glazier was one of those people. His fingerprints are on decades of public service, but his true legacy is something deeper: trust earned, lives touched, and a community strengthened by his goodness.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wednesday night’s council meetings will be rescheduled, in “honor of Jeff\u2019s memory, and to allow members of Council and staff time to grieve,” Ortega said in the news release.<\/p>\n
The Allentown Parking Authority said it is cancelling its scheduled Wednesday meeting after his death.<\/p>\n
\u201cJeff Glazier was a dedicated and loyal public servant,\u201d the parking authority said in a news release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe City of Allentown has been made better because of Jeff, and he will be missed dearly.
