Savannah a 12-year-old patient at Shriners Children\u2019s Erie is raising awareness for scoliosis by promoting the early detection of scoliosis in young children.<\/p>\n
Savannah had not been diagnosed with scoliosis until age 10 and at that point her spine had already progressed to a 48-degree curve.<\/p>\n
Now Pennsylvania Senator Michele Brooks has introduced Senate Bill 1234 which aims to lower the age for scoliosis screenings while increasing the frequency of the screenings.<\/p>\n
Through Shriners Savannah has received care to improve her condition and now she is playing a key role in making sure that other kids get the care needed for a scoliosis diagnosis.<\/p>\n
Savannah has not only raised awareness for scoliosis but is raising funds for Shriners Children\u2019s Erie by raising and selling her pig for $4,800 which she donated entirely to Shriners.<\/p>\n
Alongside her parents, Savannah speaks to kids in the area about scoliosis, bracing, and her overall journey in hopes to lessen the stigma of scoliosis.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s OK to be different from other people,\u201d Savannah\u00a0said. \u201cWe all have different problems, and in the end, we\u2019re really all the same. It\u2019s OK to be scared. Make sure to wear your brace. Even if you have to get surgery, stay positive.
