Roads were shut down around Perry Square Wednesday morning as an annual festival kicked off in downtown Erie.<\/p>\n

Erie\u2019s 35th annual Wild Rib Cook Off and Musical Festival<\/a> began on May 27 and will run until May 30.<\/p>\n

The event features live music, barbecue food and a rib judging competition.<\/p>\n

The competition brings in cooking teams from all over the country, and this year only one Erie business is going for the win.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Free summer concert series returns to Poverty Knob\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

The owner of Erie\u2019s Outlaw Barbecue Revolution, Michael Loveranes, said he\u2019s been coming to Rib Fest for years, and his barbecue is competition quality.<\/p>\n

\u201cErie has its own barbecue scene, you see plenty of great places,\u201d Loveranes said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we can hang with these guys as we\u2019ve shown up over the years. We\u2019ve trophied and won against all the major touring guys,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Loveranes said they\u2019ll be cooking throughout the week and donating a part of their sales to Feeding America.<\/p>\n
