(WHTM) \u2014 Pennsylvania lawmakers are hosting a \u201cSchool Property Tax Elimination Town Hall\u201d on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania State Senator Dawn Keefer (R-Cumberland, York counties) announced on Facebook<\/a> that the town hall will occur on May 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elizabethtown High School at 600 E. High Street.<\/p>\n Attendees will discuss Sen. Keefer\u2019s School Property Tax Elimination Act<\/a>, which proposes eliminating school property taxes in Pennsylvania and replacing them with a fair tax shift.<\/p>\n The bill\u2019s co-sponsorship memo says it aims to replace the state\u2019s current regressive property taxes with a 1.88% Personal Income Tax increase and a 2% Sales and Use Tax increase, redirecting revenue to local school districts. The memo says this new system could bring $300 million to Philadelphia schools in the first year.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one should be one life event away from losing their home,\u201d Sen.
