(KOTA) &#8211; The Rapid City Public Library is kicking off its summer reading program with a dinosaur-themed celebration for families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The event takes place Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. upstairs at the library and features hands-on activities like fossil digs, \u201cDino Dirt Cups,\u201d prehistoric dioramas, and even a frozen dinosaur excavation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Starting at 10:30 a.m., experts from the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research will give short dinosaur and fossil talks every 30 minutes through 12:30 p.m. A Jurassic Park\u2013themed photo booth will also be available throughout the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The kickoff launches the library\u2019s summer reading program, which encourages kids to read 15 minutes a day starting June 1. Participants who complete reading logs in June and July can earn small prizes, free books, and entries into larger prize drawings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Library officials say the program is designed to keep kids reading and help reduce summer learning loss heading into the next school year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">More details are available through the Rapid City Public Library\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/rapidcitylibrary.org\/event\/16352433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/rapidcitylibrary.org\/event\/16352433\">event listings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
