Pittston Township Supervisor David A. Slezak violated the state\u2019s Ethics Act by having township employees perform work on his private property while being compensated by the township and for filing inaccurate financial interest statements, according to a finding released by the Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission.<\/p>\n
In its final adjudication, dated May 27, the commission wrote that Slezak violated Section 1103(a) of the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act when he, \u201cused the authority of his office to direct Township employees to perform work on his private property while being compensated by the township and using township equipment and materials and when he received compensation from the township for performing roadmaster duties when he instead was attending to supervisor duties.\u201d<\/p>\n
The commission also found Slezak violated Section 1105(b) of the act when he failed to accurately file statements of financial interests for 2021 and 2022 by failing to report all direct\/indirect sources of income and failing to adequately report his status and positions of public office and public employment.<\/p>\n
As part of a consent agreement, the commission said Slezak has been directed to make a payment of $6,888.04 to Pittston Township no later than 30 days after the mailing date of the order.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Slezak was directed to not accept any reimbursement, compensation or other payment from the township representing a full or partial reimbursement of the amount paid in settlement of the matter.<\/p>\n
Slezak was also directed to file complete and accurate amended statements of financial interests for 2021 and 2022 with the township, through the Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission.<\/p>\n
Compliance with these directives will result in the closing of the case, the commission said.<\/p>\n
When reached for comment regarding the commission\u2019s findings, Pittston Township officials said, \u201cThe Township is aware of the investigation involving Mr. Slezak. The Township cooperated with the PA State Ethics Commission and their investigation. The Township found out today that the investigation has concluded, and we will abide by any recommendations of the commission going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
